Five categories and characteristics of sliding bearings

2021-07-26

Bearing is a rotary part supporting journal or shaft. According to the working principle of bearing, it can be divided into rolling friction bearing (rolling bearing) and sliding friction bearing (sliding bearing). Sliding bearing: if a lubricating film can be formed on the surface of the sliding bearing to separate the surface of the moving pair, the sliding friction can be greatly reduced. Since the surface of the moving pair is not in direct contact, wear is also avoided. Sliding bearing has large bearing capacity, high rotation precision and anti impact effect of lubricating film. Therefore, it has been widely used in engineering. The formation of lubricating film is the basic condition for the normal operation of sliding bearing. The factors affecting the formation of lubricating film include lubrication mode, relative motion speed of moving pair, physical properties of lubricant and surface roughness of moving pair. The design of sliding bearing shall determine the structural type of bearing, select lubricant and lubrication method and determine the geometric parameters of bearing according to the working conditions of bearing.
Sliding bearings are classified in the following ways:
1. According to the load bearing direction, it can be divided into radial (centripetal) sliding bearing and axial (thrust) sliding bearing.
2. According to the type of lubricant: it can be divided into 7 categories: oil lubricated bearing, grease lubricated bearing, water lubricated bearing, gas bearing, solid lubricated bearing, magnetic fluid bearing and electromagnetic bearing.
3. According to the thickness of lubrication film, it can be divided into thin film lubrication bearing and thick film lubrication bearing.
4. According to the bearing bush material, it can be divided into bronze bearing, cast iron bearing, plastic bearing, gem bearing, powder metallurgy bearing, self-lubricating bearing and oil bearing.
5. According to the bearing bush structure, it can be divided into circular bearing, elliptical bearing, three oil vane bearing, stepped surface bearing, tilting pad bearing and foil bearing.
We may not be very familiar with the bearing bush. Which part is it? Let's explain it here. The bearing bush is the contact part between the sliding bearing and the journal. It is a semi-circular cylindrical surface in the shape of a tile. It is very smooth. It is generally made of wear-resistant materials such as bronze and antifriction alloy. Under special circumstances, it can be made of wood, engineering plastic or rubber. It has two structures: split type and integral type.
The above are the five main classification methods of sliding bearings. I believe you can see it at a glance. In fact, no matter what type of sliding bearing, it generally does not belong to only one classification method, and there is intersection. Because each classification method is based on a certain feature, part or performance of sliding bearing.
